Let’s help composers bounce back
The pandemic has had a devastating impact on our cultural landscape.
Composers have faced endless postponements, cancellations and uncertainty, with nearly a third considering abandoning their careers altogether.
If we don’t act now, the damage caused by this year will have an irreparable effect on the future of new music. That’s why we’re raising money to help us support even more composers over the coming year with our Composer Awards.
At the start of the pandemic, we developed the Composer Awards to help composers adapt to the difficult environment we all found ourselves in. Across three rounds, we have so far been able to support 46 composers with one off grants of £500 to help them develop their practice by learning new skills and purchasing new equipment.
In the coming months we want to be able to support even more composers with these Awards. Please help us reach our target by making a contribution to the campaign.
Find out more about the Awards, and how we select the recipients, here.
Not only will every penny of your donation will go directly to selected composers, but we'll also match fund all donations, meaning the value of your donation will be doubled. That means that if we reach our goal, we'll be able to support 20 more composers this year.

“With the grant, I’m being afforded the opportunity to learn and develop a new and promising aspect of my artistic practice. It can be a big undertaking to begin something like this afresh, so with the support of Sound and Music I feel really confident in being able to do this and to subsequently take these experiences forward into shaping my future work.” - Lottie Sadd, round 2 recipient (pictured)
