We are thrilled to announce our 2024/2025 partnership with Steinberg, a world leader in audio technology, whose support for young composers and creators is helping to shape the future of new music and sound.

As sponsors of the New Music Lab series at 2024’s In the Making programme, Steinberg presented a session during the programme’s kick off Residential at the University of Huddersfield.

Participants praised the workshop as a highlight of their experience, with many using Steinberg software to produce their compositions over the week. One young composer remarked they were “Most proud of learning Dorico software” while Eva said, “I definitely learnt a lot of new skills within composition and got more confident using Cubase”.

Sound and Music – In the Making

Why this partnership matters

Sound and Music and Steinberg share a commitment to nurturing the creative potential of young people. Through this partnership, participants on our In the Making programme gain access to professional-grade tools early in their journeys, empowering them to explore their creativity and develop their skills. Steinberg’s dedication to education and innovation aligns seamlessly with our mission to support the next generation of composers and creators.

Daniel Spreadbury – Product Marketing Manager,  Steinberg:

“Steinberg is delighted to support the work of Sound and Music, and especially its unique In the Making programme for young composers and creators. Our mission is to be there for musicians, producers, and engineers at every stage of their journey in music and sound. This aligns perfectly with Sound and Music’s commitment to fostering creativity in the UK. It was incredibly inspiring to be part of the In the Making Residential and we’re excited to see how our products, including Cubase and Dorico, will inspire new works and help develop the careers of the next generation of musicians.”

Dr Will Dutta – Chief Executive, Sound and Music:

We are very grateful to Steinberg for supporting In the Making and, by extension of this discount, our wider creative community. We’ve seen how valued their world-class software has become by our young composers, some of whom are working with Digital Audio Workstations for the first time. Software costs and the pace of upgrades can present a barrier for many, so we welcome Steinberg’s generosity and demonstrable commitment to nurturing the next generation and the future of new music and sound.
