Applications for Summer School 2023 are now open until 23:59 on the 27th March 2023!

To apply for this year’s Summer School you’ll need to complete our online application form. This lets us know more about the musical interests and ideas you’d bring to this year’s Summer School, and how we could best support you to do this.

You can read the below information for applicants before starting to see what information you’ll need.

If youd like more information about how the Summer School works, financial support options or anything else, please see our FAQs page. We are committed to being inclusive of young D/deaf and disabled people, and anyone with access requirements. You are welcome to get in touch at any stage of the application process to have a chat about how we can best support you to make the most of the week. For more details about accessibility and the support we offer, please visit our Access and Support page

Alternatively, feel free to email us any questions you have about the application process or the Summer School.

Eligibility

You must be aged 14-18 on 31st August 2023. You also need to be a UK resident or a UK citizen living overseas.

The Sound and Music Summer School is a unique week and we know that there are very few opportunities for young composers. If we are over-subscribed, we may give priority to someone who has not been before over applicants who have attended previous Summer Schools.

Application process

Please note: our online application form does not allow you to save your work and return to it at a later stage. We recommend that you gather together all the information you need to make the application before you start to complete the form.

On the application form, we’ll ask about the following:

  • personal and contact details of yourself and a parent/guardian
  • any support you need financially or with access
  • information for our Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form

You will then be given the choice to either answer written questions or to schedule a 15-20 minute informal Zoom call with our Education team, to discuss the following:

  • why you want to come to Summer School
  • your musical interests and influences
  • some information about how you make music
  • any support you need financially or with access

If you have existing recordings or scores of your music, we encourage you to share them with us at this stage to help us assess your application. However, if you don’t have anything you want to share this will not affect your application.

What happens after Ive submitted my application form?

You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application. We will let you know by the end of May if you have been allocated a place. Places are limited, so dont miss the deadline!

Not sure if you’re ready?

Don’t panic! This application is not a measurement of your musical or compositional achievements to date. We just want to learn more about the musical interests and ideas you’d bring to this year’s Summer School, and how we could best support you to do this.

Ongoing financial support from our friends at Faber Music has enabled the creation of Faber Music Bursaries, each of which will cover the full costs of a place for a young person who faces a barrier to taking part because of their family’s financial circumstances.
