Proposals sought for the next seasons of the We’re All Bats online Listening Arts Channel. This is a paid opportunity with potential for development and continuity. Fees available for this project are dependent on the success of a funding application currently in processing.

Concept and Background

Opened in September 2020, the channel aims to help develop natural faculties for attention to subtlety in aural perception and mindfulness through a programme of workshops, events and activities. It promotes the expansion of one’s aesthetic appreciation of sound, shares practical skills for listening and for expanding one’s sound environment. The channel is not a music webzine, or editorial, we focus on sound as a sensory experience, and what we may learn as individuals and society by enriching and developing our aural perceptions. The programme is curated by Joel Cahen and Daniel W J Mackenzie.

What we are looking for

We are looking for programme items that follow the aims of the channel outlined above. We’re aiming for diversity of content and creative use of the tools available to us – namely online methods of delivery, remote audiences, smart devices, the outside world, stories, our bodies and the natural inquisitiveness of our minds.

Examples of themes we cover include sound healing, deep listening, field recording, ASMR, sound cultures and histories, readings, remote collaborations, the home as an installation space and audio documentaries. We are open to work in these themes but value new interpretations as well.

Target age groups are from young children to the elderly, and we welcome proposals for activities aimed at those with mixed abilities and learning difficulties.

Proposals that are structured as a series of up to seven episodes are preferred, but we can accept single events or shorter runs. New, existing or reformatted projects are permitted. We can also consider unfinished projects depending on what is required for them to reach completion.

Distribution

Our website acts as a central point for listing and presenting the programme. We use platforms such as Zoom, Twitch, Youtube etc. which we embed on the site. Where possible we record and save already broadcast episodes in an archive accessible only to members for them to catch up with in their own time, or for people to watch again at their leisure.

Depending on current COVID-19 safety measures we may be able to consider programme items that incorporate an external or group element, but it is crucial that we stay in line with the latest restrictions.

The fee available per episode is scalable and will be discussed with those who submit proposals under consideration. Our aim is to develop sustainable monetisation of your work with us. We are open to different formats, single or multiple episodes, to existing and new work and so the fee may be different for each contributor.

We can also offer a development fee in addition to the delivery fee if deemed necessary. All series will have a donation button that will enable participants to donate directly to your account, we take no fees for this.
