Neurotribes is a one-day conference, featuring as part of the soundfestival, which will bring together promoters, ensembles and composers on the autism spectrum. We will discuss the challenges facing composers on the spectrum and explore how to enable greater inclusion and facilitate effective and supportive working relationships. The conference is an initiative that has arisen from ongoing discussions between sound and a small group of neurodiverse composers, and has been prepared by sound, Drake Music Scotland and composer Ben Lunn.
The programme for the day will include presentations, discussions and music:
- Siobhan Dyson’s new work Listen Carefully, as well as works by Rylan Gleave, Ben Lunn, Benjamin Teague, Joe Stollery and Jason Hodgson.
- ‘Autistic Music? Where does an Autistic composer fit in our present and past’: Ben Lunn.
- ‘A Day in the life: Material barriers and other experiences in the profession’: Joe Stollery and Rylan Gleave.
- ‘Neurodiversity and Randomness as Compositional Tools: Why I do what I do – and How I do it’ : Jason Hodgson
- Round table: ‘How can promoters & ensembles be more inclusive & make meaningful changes?’
- Break out-groups and group discussions.
- Launch of an Advice for Promoters
