Composition Competition 2022
Leamington Sinfonia are running a composition competition and would like you to enter!

As an amateur orchestra in Leamington Spa, we’re celebrating the appointment of renowned composer Howard Skempton as our patron through our inaugural composition competition. The winner will receive a paid-for commission, a workshop with Howard Skempton AND see the commissioned piece performed by the orchestra in March 2023.

Categories
There will be two entry categories:

• Open – anyone of any age or nationality may apply
• Junior – you must be aged 21 or under as of 31st March 2023 AND also have been either born OR educated in Warwickshire.Prizes
• Composition Commission for our March 2023 concert
• Cash prizes of £500 for the Open category and £100 for the Junior Category
• An hour long workshop with composer Howard Skempton and our conductor Joe DaviesEntry Process

  • A 300-500 word cover letter explaining your intended approach to the composition – what will the title be? What are your inspirations and influences?
  • Your CV
  • Examples of three previous compositions – at least one must be for orchestra. Please submit these compositions as PDF versions of the sheet music, however we would welcome any additional sound recordings or links to previous performances supplied in addition to the sheet music.
  • Please make clear whether you are applying for the Junior or Open categories. (Those eligible for the Junior category may apply for both if so inclined)

   

• This entry must be submitted before 5pm on the 30th April 2022.
