Opera singer and comedy writer Lucy Mellors is developing a semi-autobiographical one-woman comedy show exploring self-esteem, failure, joy and the first woman in space. We are looking for a composer to work with Lucy and work alone in the R&D stage to explore initial ideas for the creation of a small section of original opera to be included in this piece (which also contains standard operatic repertoire, but is a play by definition.)
At this stage the role is three days at £150pd (including watching a sharing of the show), with travel expenses available. You would be exploring composition through the use of loop pedals, writing for two voices, piano and violin, but other ideas are always welcome. A commission will then be proposed for the next stage of the project.
The work is supported by Arts Council England, MAST Mayflower Studios and Proteus Theatre.
