An opportunity for emerging classical musicians who are considering a career in classical music. This can include performance, production, composition, conducting, lecturing, teaching or any other professional as long as the subject is classical music. Once we have selected the successful applicants, we will source a bespoke mentor for each mentee, according to their interests, skills, and career intentions. If the mentee is not sure about a particular career path, the mentor will be chosen based on the mentee’s skills and interests.

Mentors include high profile professionals in various fields. Over the past few years we have built strong links with Royal Northern Sinfonia and Royal Northern College of Music and many mentors have been sourced from these institutions as well as many other high profile musicians, composers, conductors, teachers, community musicians and academics.

Between October 2021 and February 2022 CMMI Mentees will be allocated 31 hours to develop an action plan and programme of 1:1 sessions with their mentors, at mutually convenient times. The location of these sessions can be arranged to be mutually convenient for the mentor and the mentee.

CMMI mentees will also attend 3 facilitated sessions (2 hrs each). In these sessions mentees will learn about inclusive practice, transferable skills including networking, time management, communication, finance and general organisational skills needed for any music career.

These sessions will take place on the following dates:

  • 4 to 6pm Thursday 18th November 2021
  • 4 to 6 pm Thursday 20th January 2022
  • 4 to 6pm Thursday 17 February 2022

Mentees will be paid at a rate of £10 per hour.
