Our June Beyond the Stage series session is in collaboration with Tonic Music, and will be presented by Jeordie Shenton, Tonic’s Program Coordinator.

The workshop will teach participants skills to manage negative thoughts and emotions, including helpful perspectives on how we perceive and respond to our internal world, practical ways of building emotional awareness, and employing the key principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Throughout the workshop, contexts and case studies will be music-specific, to equip participants with skills which can be used when engaging professionally and recreationally with music.

The session will be 2 hours long, with space for a break during the session.

Topics covered will include:

  • Practical ways to build and develop emotional resilience, including techniques around emotional awareness.

  • Looking at what helps us to build resilience
  • Techniques and skills that can help reduce vulnerability to overwhelming emotions
  • How to manage unhelpful and unwanted thoughts
  • Thought fusion and diffusion
  • Values and committed action
