BRISTOL NEW MUSIC

A city-wide festival of contemporary music and sound
25 – 28 April 2024

Marking its 10th anniversary, the fifth edition of Bristol New Music boasts major international artists alongside homegrown talent, with events in clubs, churches and concert halls across the city.

Bristol New Music’s 2024 programme includes:

Japanese composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda performing material from recent album Ultratronics: one of only two dates in the UK. Also performing in the main room is US producer and composer Jlin. American polymath Lonnie Holley and Australian born, Berlin-based, Jules Reidy. Elaine Mitchner performing in Bristol for the first time ever, and an immersive and ceremonial show by singer and composer Keeley Forsyth, in a special UK Preview performing new material from forthcoming LP ‘The Hollow’ accompanied by strings and electronics.

A triple bill at St George’s Bristol features Apartment House, bringing a programme including works by Nico, Arthur Russell and Jim O’Rourke. Legendary Scottish free improv vocalist Maggie Nicols, joining forces with Bristol-based  percussionist Dan Johnson for a first time duo, and Josephine Foster, performing her 2022 baroque-ambient masterpiece Godmother live for the first time ever.

Sound artist Kathy Hinde will be presenting her installation ‘Earthquake Mass Re-Imagined’ in the atmospheric fifteenth century Crypt of St John on the Wall, and world-leading new music group Quatuor Bozzini return for the first time since they performed the inaugural festival ten years ago.
