Jaka Škapin is a Slovenian artist, producer and musician based in London. His musical background is firmly rooted in the choral and jazz traditions, while his practice revolves around the use of collaborative improvisation as a practice of artistic self-expression and creative connection with others. He has recently received project support from PRF Foundation, Help Musicians and Arts Council England and is currently preparing to release a six voice, fully improvised album as well as an online singing project that will aim to connect vocal improvisers across England.
In January 2021 Jaka received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:
“I feel extremely honoured to enter 2021 with creative support from Sound and Music. Being recognised for my original music in a period where I’m fully coming into my own as a composer and songwriter is just so needed and will allow for a renewed focus around the first couple of releases coming up for me in the next few months.”
In August 2020 Jaka was a winner of the British Music Collection‘s Interpreting Isolation grants, read more about his work, A Sound That Triggered, here.
