The Seed Award is a targeted package of support, including coaching sessions and a small bursary to enable artists to research and develop a particular project or take the next step in their creative journey.

There is no separate application or open call for the award, it is offered directly to selected composers as part of the In Motion application process.

All applicants to In Motion are shortlisted by both an internal and external panel, and we invite 18 composers to interview. Of the composers interviewed, ten are selected to join In Motion and eight are offered the Seed Award.

Selection was informed by our Fair Access Principles, which helps us ensure our programmes are inclusive and equitable, reflecting the rich diversity of the UK’s music scene. Our panel was deeply impressed by the calibre of the 450 applications received.

Selected composers

The selected artists exemplify the innovative spirit and artistic excellence that we strive to support.

We are excited to witness the growth and achievements of this year’s cohort and look forward to supporting their journey. Congratulations to:

The Seed Award recipients receive a targeted package of support designed to nurture their creative potential and advance their projects, including:

  • A £200 contribution towards research and development of a project
  • Coaching sessions with an accredited coach
  • Strategic thinking sessions with a dedicated team member
  • Networking sessions with fellow awardees

Since 2019, we have supported 52 composers with the Seed Award, offering meaningful, targeted support at a critical stage in their creative journeys. We continue to shape our offer from feedback from artists and our wider community to ensure it remains useful and impactful.

We extend our warm thanks to this year’s selection panel — Toria Banks, Laura Cannell, Annie Goh, Marcus Joseph and Taz Modi — alongside Sound and Music’s Creative Programme Leaders, for their expertise and care in selecting the In Motion and Seed Award cohorts.

We encourage composers and music creators who would like to apply for next year’s In Motion programme to stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter.
