Today, we are excited to announce the panel for In Motion 2025. In line with our Fair Access Principles, we want to have an open and transparent selection process, so for the fifth year in a row, we have rotated the external selection panellists to refresh and renew the process.

The panel for In Motion 2025 is Toria BanksLaura CannellAnnie GohMarcus Joseph and Taz Modi.

In Motion is our artist development programme that supports composers at pivotal stages of their careers to explore new ideas, new sounds and new music.  

The In Motion 2025 panel reflects the breadth of new sound and new music being made in the UK today. Each panellist brings variety of background, taste and experience into the decision-making process and they are excited to listen to your work! You can read more about each of the panellists below.

Toria Banks

Toria Banks (she/her) is Producer and Joint Artistic Director of Hera (with Linda Hirst). Hera make inclusive, feminist opera online and on tour, working with composers including Amble Skuse, Yaz Lancaster and Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian. Toria’s writing includes the libretto for Skuse’s digital opera ‘We Ask These Questions of Everybody’(“politically important and an artistic triumph” ★★★★★, The i); and ‘Out of Her Mouth’ with Dunedin Consort (“a revelation” ★★★★★, The Times). Current work includes a new opera for Twitch with composer Alexis Bacon, supported by Michigan State University. Toria was Resident Director at Trinity Laban Conservatoire from 2009 to 2021.

Laura Cannell

Laura Cannell (she/her) is an internationally acclaimed composer and performer from Norfolk, UK.She has performed solo at Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Barbican, Latitude Festival to Copenhagen Jazzhouse, Tate Liverpool. Kings Place, Unsound Poland, Flow Helsinki and many more.

Commissions include Hampton Court Palace, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Amazon Audible Originals. Her tv and film music has appeared on Netflix, BBC tv & radio, and internationally. She recently composed and performed on the film  HARVESTscreened in 2024 at Venice Biennale and Royal Festival Hall LFF. Recent collaborators include cellist Lori Goldston (Nirvana/Earth), Stewart Lee (Comedian/Writer).

Annie Goh

Annie Goh (she/her) is an artist and researcher. Her work, which spans sound installation, composition and computer music to writing, performance and social practice, takes a critical approach to contemporary debates in the fields of digital technologies, media arts, generative and computational processes, with a particular focus on sound, intersectional feminism, decolonial theory and the politics of knowledge production. She co-curated the discourse program of CTM Festival Berlin 2013-2016 and is co-founder of the Sonic Cyberfeminisms project since 2015 with Marie Thompson. She is currently Course Leader of BA Sound Arts at LCC, UAL and a member of CRiSAP (Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice).

Marcus Joseph

Marcus Joseph (he/him) is an acclaimed alto saxophonist and composer from Leicester, UK, known for blending jazz with spoken word and Afro-Caribbean influences. His debut album, Beyond the Dome, showcases his unique sound, combining infectious grooves with positive hip-hop vibes. A dynamic performer, Marcus has shared the stage with notable artists and participated in significant events, including his headlining performance at Leicester Cathedral at the For the Love of Jazz festival. Committed to community engagement, he uses music as a tool for transformation and unity.

Taz Modi

Taz Modi (he/him) is a musician and composer based in the Sussex countryside. He is a founder member and MD of electronic band Submotion Orchestra, and also plays keyboards and hang drum with Mercury-nominated instrumental act Portico Quartet. His solo album Reclaimed Goods was featured as one of Guardian writer John Lewis’ top ten albums of 2019, and has seen him tour the UK and Europe with his string trio.  

His composing work includes scoring Netflix’s ‘Mark Cavendish: Never Enough’ as well as numerous projects for the BBC, the Barbican and many more.
