Sound and Music is delighted to announce the selection of the 10 exceptional composers for the inaugural cohort of our new flagship artist development programme, In Motion.
Our external selection panel were overwhelmed with the number, quality and diversity of applications, with over 350 composers applying for a place in the unique 18-month artist-led development programme.
The 2024 In Motion cohort hail from all over the UK, working across a wide range of genres including jazz, electronic, classical, experimental, folk, soul and punk. Together their work will create a rich tapestry reflecting many of the most exciting elements of new music today. We are thrilled they have joined the programme and look forward to working alongside them on this next step in their creative practice.
Our In Motion 2024 composers are: Vicky Clarke, Damsel Elysium, Siteng, Sherry Davis, Namvula, Chihiro Ono, Medulasa, Owen Shiers, Raivo Sloan and SWEENEY.
In Motion marks an important moment in Sound and Music’s continual evolution, building on the 15–year legacy and learning on our renowned programmes such as New Voices and Composer-Curator, supporting 1000s of diverse artists and scenes, fostering musical innovation and serving as a launchpad for some of the most exciting and underrepresented creative talent across the UK.
The programme addresses the pressing need for sustainable support in the music industry, helping composers overcome challenges in career development and practice enhancement.
Will Dutta, Chief Executive, Sound and Music, said: “The 10 selected artists vividly reflect the variety of ways composers are making music and sound to shape the modern world. We learn so much from every cohort we support and over the next 18 months we look forward to sharing their insights, stories and work as it develops to ensure composers voices are at the heart of the cultural debate.”
We encourage composers and music creators who would like to apply for next year’s In Motion programme to stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter.
