Welcome to Composer-Curator!

Applications for 2019 are now closed.

We expect to announce the 2019 cohort in April. Applications for the next round will open in early 2020.

Composer-Curator supports outstanding projects across the UK that are curated and produced by composers and music creators. These are centred on performance events and installations, with workshops and public discussions also encouraged. The programme supports any form of experimental new music or sound art, whether it involves exploratory jazz, contemporary classical, electroacoustic work, non-Western musics or any other relevant practice.

How does it work?

Participants spend an initial period refining their projects with the support of the Sound and Music team, before moving on to a production phase, culminating in two or more public events.

The programme is open to all UK-based creators working with music or sound. The final public events will take place between May 2019 and March 2020.

We are particularly interested in projects located in places where levels of engagement with publicly funded arts and culture, including new music, are currently low. Imbalances in provision and engagement remain huge across different parts of the UK, and Sound and Music is committed to helping address this. (Useful findings are provided in recent reports from the national surveys, Taking Part and Active Lives).
