If you work with, support, teach or care for a young person between 14 – 18 who is passionate about making music — or if you are a young music creator yourself — then this programme is for you.

“In the Making has blown my mind”
About In the Making
In the Making is the UK’s only year-long young artist development programme of its kind. We support young people working across all types of music, from beats and songs to sound art, classical, electronic and experimental practices. What matters most is curiosity, creativity and a passion for making music and exploring where it could go.
Each year, 50 new young music creators come together from all over the UK for an unforgettable summer residential and showcase at the University of Huddersfield, followed by a flexible and inspiring year-long artist development programme of creative exploration, mentoring, peer support, progressions pathways and careers guidance.

We are looking for young people who are:
- Aged 14–18 by the start of the residential in July 2026
- Live in the UK
- Love creating their own music or sound
- Want to push themselves creatively in a supportive environment
- Excited by collaboration and new ideas
- Want to learn more about music careers and see different pathways
- Would love their music to be performed, recorded and shared
There is no need for formal training, music qualifications or notation skills. We are interested in their ideas, creative process and potential.

Affordability and accessibility
Affordability and accessibility will never be a barrier to participation. In the Making is heavily subsidised for all, with means-tested bursaries available covering up to 100% of the fee, and support with travel and access requirements.
We welcome alternative application formats and can support applicants, parents, carers, teachers and organisations at every stage of the process.
