Today, we are thrilled to launch the BRIT Kids ‘Friends and Feelings’ collection on Minute of Listening. Create a free account on Minute of Listening to access the full collection alongside educational resources and a library of over 200 Minutes.

Sound and Music have introduced reflective listening to over 30,000 children since 2011 through Minute of Listening, a free resource of 60-second sounds. In this new partnership with BRIT Kids, 20 talented young people aged 10-17 from the BRIT Kids Music Production Course have created a collection of sounds around the theme of ‘friendship’ for other young people to listen to and be inspired by.

BRIT Kids, the BRIT School’s weekend centres, support children from the local community to explore their creativity across a range of art forms in a safe place. Since 2021, Sound and Music have worked with BRIT Kids Music Production teacher David Henckel to introduce their classes to new sounds and creative thinking through Minute of Listening. Sound and Music then invited the BRIT Kids to create their own collection.

The music-making techniques used within their compositions include sampling, vocals, the use of instrument packs and more. Logic Pro, a music production software, allowed the young composers to explore a wide variety of sounds within their Minutes. The resulting ‘Friends and Feelings’ collection explores the theme of friendship through a unique and inspiring sonic journey across genres. For each Minute within the collection, the young composers have created activities and questions to support engaged and creative listening.

If you feel inspired by the BRIT Kids ‘Friends and Feelings’ collection to create your own collection contact the Minute of Listening team.
