The soundfestival’s annual Composers’ Day will take place on Saturday 26th October in central Aberdeen. As part of the day, acclaimed vocalist and composer Laura Bowler will be giving a Masterclass on writing for voice.We are inviting composers to submit short works for solo voice, two to three of which will be selected by Laura as material for the masterclass. During the masterclass, composers will be able to hear their pieces live and receive feedback and recommended routes for improving technical skills. The masterclass will be open to members of the public in addition to the other Composers’ Day participants.

Scope

  • Your piece must be for solo voice (mezzo-soprano).
  • Your piece should be no longer than five minutes in duration.
  • You can write something new or send in an unperformed work from your existing repertoire.

How to Apply

Deadline for applications: end of day on 20th September 2024

We are offering a 2-day “grace period” until the end of day on 22nd  September for applicants who can’t reach the deadline due to health challenges, having to care for family members, or other reasonable and/or unexpected circumstances. Please state your reason in the application form.

Please note that you must be able to attend in-person in Aberdeen on Saturday 26th October 2024 to submit a composition for workshop. The cost for the day is £10. More information about the Composers’ Day will be published soon.

We will let you know if your composition has been selected for masterclass by the 4th October.

Selection process
