NMC Recordings is looking to appoint its next Executive Director who will build on the organisation’s success and support NMC’s expert creative team in delivering an exciting programme of recordings, partnership projects, and education initiatives.
NMC is an award-winning charity and record label dedicated to recording and releasing contemporary classical music by composers from Britain and Ireland. Our mission is to champion and disseminate new music and support composers of all generations whose work would not otherwise be available in recorded form. Without NMC, hundreds of important works by leading figures like Harrison Birtwistle, Judith Weir, Anthony Payne, Errollyn Wallen, Howard Skempton, and Tansy Davies could not be accessed, and many early-career composers would never have the chance to create a first milestone album.
Having secured a 25% increase in NPO funding from Arts Council England for 2023-26, NMC is well-placed to fulfil its aims of maintaining a 50-50 gender balance in its composer roster, to work with composers and artists representative of the broadest range of backgrounds and experiences, and to extend the reach of our education work to more under-served schools.
We are also ambitious to achieve commercial success, to grow levels of donated income, and to work in ways that are increasingly cost-effective, environmentally responsible, and considerate of the needs of our staff.
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about contemporary music and culture, with excellent managerial and administrative skills, who can confidently plan and monitor budgets, who combine an eye for detail with the ability to horizon-scan and take strategic decisions, who can advocate persuasively for NMC and broker new beneficial partnerships, and who can inspire and guide NMC’s team.
This is a part-time role, and we are flexible about terms: we are open to approaches from candidates who wish to work 2 or 3 days per week, and candidates who are looking for a permanent position or who wish to commit for a fixed term only in the first instance (12 months minimum).
We are particularly keen to connect with potential candidates from under-represented groups, including those from global majority backgrounds and/or with characteristics protected under the Equalities Act, including race, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, and religion and belief.
The deadline for applications is midday on Thursday 5 January 2023.
