Gregory T.S. Walker’s Minstrels and Minimoogs is a post-rock pageant of storytelling, live VJ projection, and avantgarde virtuosity. Originally the soundtrack for an immersive multimedia performance at the University of Colorado Fiske Planetarium from the beginning of the composer’s career, the music embodies an ancient-to-future vision where Egyptian myths and Hieronymus Bosch-ian tableaus are brought to life with Ruby Caddick Lawrence’s soprano vocals, Krisztian Sipos’ electronic drums, and a cutting-edge guitar synthesizer designed by Rob O’Reilly in County Kerry, Ireland. Incorporating mutant strains of prog and pop music, the accumulation is not unlike the playful 1980s work of Gregorio Paniagua, where medieval estampies and rondeaus are wrenched into an anachronistic present; where Hildegard Von Bingen and Kate Bush might be contemporaries.
