Arctic Circle’s Daylight Music has, for over fifteen years, become an important part of London’s live music scene, with a weird and wonderful mix of musicians presenting ideas and storytelling in music and sound, alongside delicious cake, in some of the most splendid and iconic venues. Now it finds itself in Kent for an afternoon expedition in the welcoming space of ARK – Cliftonville Cultural Space.

Known for his enchanting melodies, intricate guitar style and beautiful acoustic arrangements, Cardiff-based The Gentle Good (Gareth Bonello) is one of the foremost songwriters in Wales today. Gareth has released many acclaimed records with this project including those which have won both the Welsh Language Music Prize and Welsh Language Album of the Year. His most recent album is a stripped-back folk album Galargan (Welsh for ‘Lament’) which received a rare 5 stars from The Guardian.

Liz Ikamba’s music cross-pollinates musical and cultural influences, seamlessly blending the rich and vibrant sounds of Congo folk music with elements of jazz, soul, reggae, hip hop, and more. Singing in both English and Lingala, Liz weaves together a personal and ancestral story, with songs speaking largely from her experience as a dual heritage woman and artist living in the UK, currently in Brighton. Expect sun-fuelled rhythms, catchy hooks and harmonies, and the chance to join in with some Lingala choruses!

Finally joining us is Alice Boyd a musician, sound artist and audio producer whose work blends voice, ambient electronic textures, and novel field recording techniques to explore our interconnectedness with the natural world and reveal the hidden sounds of our environments. Recently Alice released her EP From The Understory, created as part of her artist residency at the Eden Project – the world’s largest indoor rainforest. Her music has since been featured on BBC Radio 3, 4 & 6 and BBC Music Introducing.

Music, melodies, sunshine and folk tales invite you imagine and dream landscapes old and new. We bring a blast of melancholic joy to Margate this October.

“Daylight Music offers a chance to just drop in, listen to some wonderful music and soak up the venue’s lovely atmosphere.” – Time Out, 101 things to do in London
