As the temperature falls and the light begins to flicker and fade, we send this invitation for you and your kin to come to The Hot Tin to mark the end of the year together. It’ll be a winter gathering involving musical merriment, crisp improvisation, African percussion, sonic storytelling and the odd mince pie.

The first of our three invited guests is Leeds-based musician Matthew Bourne whose career has never been one to take the expected route. He gained prominence as winner of the Perrier Jazz Award at the turn of the century but soon embarked on an unconventional twisted path involving vintage synthesisers, a creaky harmonium and the odd harpsichord.

At the end of the year we will catchup to find him taking a glacial approach to touring his acclaimed and most recent album for the Leaf Label This Is Not For You. His idiosyncratic approach to the piano will be matched by the equally beguiling Viennese instrument now resident at The Hot Tin.

Our second performer, Falle Nioke, is a singer and percussionist from Guinea Conakry, West Africa. Youkounkoun is the name of his village, where the Coniagui tribe live. Their language is also called Coniagui. Additionally, he sings in French, English, Susu, Fulani and Malinke, and plays a range of African instruments to accompany his voice (gongoma, Bolon, Cassi).

Building on his significant fan base in Guinea he signed to label PRAH Recordings to release a series of EPS, collaborating with artist Ghost Culture, sir Was, which was heard on BBC Radio 6 Music. Although he loves to collaborate, his live solo show is a soulful performance of his own creation in a traditional African style.

Our final musician for this end of year curation in Faversham is Liza Bec, an innovative contemporary performer, composer, producer and multimedia narrative author. They built their own instrument, the roborecorder, which is on display in the London Science Museum.

Their work has been featured in New Scientist and Insider magazines. They were awarded the Fusion Fund by Help Musicians UK to create audiovisual EP INNERVATE. In 2024 they hold residencies at Britten Pears and Paraorchestra. They recently recorded their debut novel and album at Real World Studios.
