Shirley Tetteh has become a rising star of the UK Jazz scene.

She is a member of the Jazz FM Awards nominated septet Nérija, also winners of the ‘Jazz Newcomer of the Year’ category at the 2017 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, who released their debut album on Domino Records in August 2019, which won the A2IM Libera award for best Jazz album in June 2020. She is a member of Maisha, whose debut album released in November 2018 on Giles Peterson’s ‘Brownswood’ label was nominated for the 2019 Worldwide FM Awards ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ category, and SEED Ensemble, who were nominated for the 2019 Mercury Award for their ‘Driftglass’ album.

In October 2018 she released her first song ‘Speedial’ under the artist name Nardeydey, and was promptly included in the Guardian’s ‘Tunisian techno,Xitsongan rap and Satanic doo-wop: the best new music of 2019’ article for December 2018 alongside viral artists King Princess and Saweetie. Shirley made Jack Saunders’ BBC Radio 1 ‘Next Wave’ artist pick with her second single ‘Free Falling’ as Nardeydeyin January 2019, having both singles played multiple times on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6 Music and Worldwide FM. With her self-titled EP ‘Nardeydey’ included in many ‘best of’ lists including Radio 1 DJ Jamz Supernoza’s ‘Top 5 EP’s of the week’ and The Vinyl Factory’s ‘Top Ten EP’s of the Week’ during November 2019, Shirley Tetteh in her many guises is one to watch!
