Shaun Davies is a sound artist/curator/performer, Artistic Director of KINETIC and RNCM (UK) graduate. His work has been performed by Ensemble Mimitabu (Sweden), RTE ConTempo Quartet (Ireland), Vonnegut Collective, House of Bedlam (UK), etc., and featured by Kalv Festival (Sweden), nonclassical, New Music Manchester, BBC Radio 3 (UK) and more. His primary considerations are sociological and psychological – community, sensory phenomena, inter-human relationships/phenomena, interpretation and inclusivity. Shaun creates environments whereby participants deeply sonically explore objects/instruments (often cheap/accessible), and share discoveries in ensemble situations, matching these ambitions with connections to nature, deep listening and intimate, transcendental experiences.

In January 2021 Shaun received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:

“I am very humbled to have been selected for this award – it comes at a time whereby challenges regarding my creative motivation and mental health have been extremely difficult as a consequence of the pandemic and its devastation on the creative community. This award will allow me to conduct practical research into how one passion of mine, plants, can become ingrained into my artistic practice. Together with experts in various fields, I will be exploring how to gather information from the electrical impulses of plants in response to various stimuli (temperature, light, soil, water, humidity, touch, etc.), and map these onto synthesis / various features and parameters of electronic music. I will also be closely documenting the growing sounds of various plants and organisms.”
