Matthew Kaner is a composer based in London whose works are performed and broadcast widely in the UK and internationally. Described as “a composer deftly able to draw the listener into his far-reaching imaginative world” (BBC Music Magazine) his work has been praised for its “ultra-perceptive imagery, textural delicacy and illuminating precision” (the Scotsman). His 2022 BBC Proms commission, Pearl, setting poetry by Simon Armitage, was described as “spine-tingling… sparking electricity” (the Guardian). His debut album, comprising chamber works performed by Guy Johnston, Mark Simpson, Benjamin Baker, Daniel Lebhardt and the Goldfield Ensemble was released in 2022 to critical acclaim.

Matthew was shortlisted to represent the ISCM British Section at the World New Music Days Festival 2024, in the Faroe Islands.
