Kai Chareunsy is a drummer and composer with a background in improvised music, and a recent interest in electro-acoustic music. His compositional output explores music that exists in a space between these disparate worlds. Recent commissions include THSH, Severn Arts, Centrala, and a premiere at BEAST FEaST 2021. Known for his sensibility to sound and melodic approach to drumming, Kai is becoming an established member of the U.K. music scene having worked with a number of outstanding artists. Kai graduated with first-class honours from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (scholarship) and was awarded The Prize for Commitment and Dedication.

In July 2021 Kai received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:

“I am very excited to have been selected for the COVID-19 Composer Award. This grant will allow me to develop my collaborative project, CANYON, affording us the opportunity to create a new live video. The support from Sound and Music comes at a difficult time for many musicians, and so I am very grateful that myself and a number of CANYON collaborators will benefit from this award.”
