Jeph Vanger (b.1989 in Athens) is a sound artist and composer. The interaction between sound, space, movement and the human body has been an important part of his current artistic practice. He has worked in the fields of dance, theatre, film and installation and he is also one of the ‘Composers in Residence’ for 2021 at Elektronmusikstudion (EMS) in Stockholm, Sweden supported by Help Musicians UK. His works often combine multi-channel sound systems, modular synthesizers and handmade sound sculptures, focusing on the physical presence of sound in space as a moving and raw entity.

In January 2021 Jeph received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:

I feel grateful to be one of the recipients of the Covid-19 Composer Award. In these turbulent times on a personal and global level, it is important to continue creating, evolving, and discovering new ways of existing. The funds of the award will be going towards the creation of a short film in collaboration with a filmmaker, a choreographer, and a dancer which will be exploring the connection between the human body and motion sensors that can turn the body into a moving instrument, kindly provided by Instrument of Things music technology company. Attaching 4 sensors to a human body, we will create an interplay between body and sound with a focus on developing individual creativity and an organic need to move.”
