Help open doors for the next generation of composers
Our new bursary appeal aims to increase the number of full bursary places on our trailblazing new artist development programme for young people aged 14-18, In the Making.
We are raising funds to support our diverse new cohort of 50 talented young people from across the country who will be participating in our unique and inclusive young artist development programme, In the Making. The 12-month programme includes a week-long residential, skills sessions, industry support, networking opportunities, and bespoke creative mentoring to develop and professionally record new compositions to support their creative ambitions.
In The Making is the only programme of its kind in the UK and is possible thanks to the generous support of our funders, partners and supporters and a means-tested contribution from parents and carers. We invite our amazing music community – and anyone who wants to share the joy of music making – to donate to the bursary appeal so that more young people get the time, space and support to develop their skills, creativity and ambitions as young composers.
After a successful fundraising appeal in 2023, over 80 supporters raised more than £10,000 for the Susanna Eastburn Bursary Fund. This year, we invite our community – and anyone who wants to share the joy of music making – to donate to the bursary appeal and help us raise an additional £5,000, so that even more young people get the time, space and support to develop their skills as young composers.
"National music education is in a state of alarming decline and young people have limited, patchy and unequal access to progress their creativity. Through the exceptional generosity of our donors, we are able to ensure that the unique, fun and life-changing experience of In the Making is more inclusive and accessible by removing financial barriers to participation. I hope you will consider making your own contribution, if you are able to do so. Every single donation will support our ambition to bring the frontier of new music and sound closer to every person."
