Eroteme opens its autumn season with performances by Paris-based Arnaud Rivière and London/Taiwanese artist Lucia H Chung (en creux).

Both artists use noise as a material in its own right: Rivière presents 4×4, a spatial work first shown at GRM’s Présences Électroniques festival and re-adapted here for the acoustics of PINK. The piece reimagines monophonic reverberation as a polymorphic form, treating noise as gesture and movement through hacked electronics and feedback. Chung works with no-input mixing and the uncovering of hidden signal paths, using feedback and glitch as a live improvisational strategy.

Their approaches share a sense of risk and immediacy, presented at the artist-led PINK, a DIY space in Stockport.

Arnaud Rivière (Paris)

Since the late 1990s, Rivière has been forging a raw and unpredictable language from hacked electronics, turntables, prepared mixers and feedback. His performances are physical interventions — ecstatic noise bursts, sudden silences, collisions of objects and wires — where sound is torn from its intended function and thrown into new form.

He has played internationally at festivals and venues such as LUFF (CH), Audiograft (UK), Cave 12 (CH), Instants Chavirés (FR), and Tsonami (Chile), and collaborated with improvisers including Roger Turner, Sophie Agnel, Thomas Bonvalet, Jérôme Noetinger and members of Onceim Orchestra (with works by Éliane Radigue, Stephen O’Malley, John Tilbury).

“…an unabashed feedbackophile who creates monstrous gusts of noise with simple tools used incorrectly.” – Keir Neuringer

Lucia H Chung (London/Taiwan)

Lucia H Chung is a Taiwanese experimental noise artist based in London. She performs and releases music under the alias en creux, where sound creation springs from her explorations of the hidden noise floor in audio equipment. Working with no-input feedback mixing, she transforms volatile glitches into an improvisational and compositional strategy — summoning a hollowed, reversed form of sound from the console itself.

She has performed across the UK, Europe, Asia and North America at festivals including Lausanne Underground Film & Music (CH), Krama (GR), Lisboa Soa (PT), Sanatorium of Sound (PL), Electropixel (FR), and Sonorities (NI).

“…testing the possibilities of a machine broadcasting into itself, she affords our minds space to plot paths through unfamiliar movements, surfaces and spaces.” – The Wire Magazine
