Here, we speak to Seed Award 2024 composer Alliyah Enyo.

Can you tell us about your musical influences?

It never feels specific to genre or time period, I also have a DJ practice so because of this I feel very eclectic and expansive with my taste and always feel a yearning to discover something new that can inspire me. But there are certain artists that have had a deep effect on me such as Cocteau Twins, Kali Malone and Malibu. I really resonate with these artists and feel they are working in a similar mood or tone even if the tools to create differ to my own.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am currently working on a score for film artist and videographer Cal McCormack, the footage is rooted within an Orcadian landscape and the score involves lots of field recordings processed by recording onto cassette loops, followed by dub mixing techniques to create a very tactile workflow. I am also working on a second album which involves a lot of vocal recordings from Hospitalfield’s Mortuary Chapel, this project brings together elements of chopped & screwed, sacred music complimented by r&b vocal harmonies and chamber ambient/church music.
