Hannah Kendall’s work has been widely celebrated; described by New Statesman as “searingly impactful,” and for having a “rich inner life,” by the San Francisco Chronicle. Her chamber opera, The Knife of Dawn, received critical acclaim for its involving representation of the incarceration of Guyanese political activist Martin Carter. A new production was presented at Royal Opera House in 2020. She has worked with ensembles including BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, LA Phil, New York Philharmonic, and Ensemble Modern. In 2022, she was the recipient of the Hindemith Prize for music composition, and nominated for an Ivor Novello Award.

In March 2023, Hannah was selected for the ISCM British Section’s shortlist of composers submitted to the ISCM World New Music Days Festival in South Africa. Find out more here.
