As a charity, the Royal Albert Hall believes in providing an Engagement programme that aims to enrich people’s lives and offer fairer access to the arts. The programme is divided into 3 main strands of activity: Engaging with Music, Supporting Communities, and Discovering Careers. Across those three strands, we aim to offer a subsidised or free programme of arts activity, enable specific groups to access the Hall in a way that suits them, be informed by inclusive practice, involve collaborative working with specialist partner organisations and take inspiration from the Hall’s architecture, history & events.
We are seeking a Freelance Music Workshop Facilitator to lead an exciting new pilot project within our Engagement programme, working with young mums (aged 17-20) and their babies. Rhythms is a 10 week series of 1 hour participatory workshops aiming to explore the theme of young motherhood through group song writing, singing and music making. The workshops will also aim to explore the ways in which participants can incorporate musical activities and play with their babies both within and outside of the project. At the end of the project, the final session will take place at Royal Albert Hall where there will be an informal sharing of music and celebration of the project.
Rhythms is a new project within the Royal Albert Hall Engagement programme. The project is a collaboration with the charity MumsAid and is an exclusive offer for a group of young mums who are supported through their YoungMumsAid Project. Workshops will take place at Mulberry Park Children’s Centre in Greenwhich. The workshops aim to provide an inclusive, fun and relaxing environment for mums and their babies to explore a variety of musical activities.
Essential:
- Experienced in planning, delivering and leading creative, participatory programmes in community settings including music workshops with children under 5 years old and their carers.
- Exceptional musical skills at a professional level and confident in vocal leading and facilitating song writing and music making activities.
- Experienced in a range of musical genres and styles.
- Have a passion and commitment to cultural inclusion and the role of music in supporting wellbeing.
- A person-centred approach with an awareness and understanding of individuals mental health.
- Ability to plan and adapt workshop content to support the unique needs of participants and where necessary manage dynamics within the group.
- Enthusiastic collaborator and ability to clearly communicate with staff and participants
- Adaptable and capable of working under pressure with the ability to improvise around a workshop plan if necessary and incorporate feedback and ideas from participants and RAH staff.
- Understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and reflect this in your workshop practice, being sensitive to the range of backgrounds and experiences within the group.
- Understanding and commitment to safeguarding and adhering to RAH Safeguarding policy.
- Current DBS.
- Commit to all of the dates and workshops as outlines in the project schedule.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working with young mothers.
- Interest in maternal mental health.
- Experience working with young people who may not have been in formal education.
