“We’re so pleased to collaborate with Sound and Music to amplify music from our RPS Composers – a cohort of imaginative creators establishing their careers, who dedicate their creative energies to writing music that seeks to captivate audiences and respond to current times.
We invite music-lovers and curious listeners to discover more about each RPS Composer as they share their own music, and celebrate the diverse influences and creators who inspire them.”
— Harriet Wybor, General Manager at RPS
RPS Composers
RPS Composers supports composers in the early stages of their careers with a paid commission to write for a noted ensemble, festival or venue, and a year-long programme of professional development workshops and mentoring.
Through their music, the 2025 RPS Composers explore everything from sound design, interdisciplinary opera and punk-infused contemporary works to music rooted in nature, disability theory and queer identity. Each artist brings a unique voice and vision to this takeover.
“Great to have the seven RPS Composers take over the mixtape as we enter the summer months.
Through our Fair Access Principles, we share a commitment with our friends at the Royal Philharmonic Society to creating artist-centred, equitable and inclusive development programmes that champion the curious and intrepid.
It’s collaborations like this that continue to drive originality, discovery and equity across music in the UK.”
— Will Dutta, Chief Executive at Sound and Music
About RPS
The Royal Philharmonic Society – a registered charity – has been at the heart of music for over 200 years, creating opportunities for musicians to excel, and championing the vital role that music plays in all our lives. Through our programme of grants, commissions, professional development and performance opportunities, we help many performers and composers overcome barriers to progress and fulfil their potential.
Through the annual RPS Awards – described by The Sunday Times as ‘the biggest night in UK classical music’ – we celebrate musical achievements UK-wide and tell a vital story of what music-makers do for the benefit of others. Through RPS Membership and our talks and events, we aim to cultivate greater pride and curiosity in classical music.
