Sound of the Year Awards are celebration of sound presented by The Radiophonic Institute (TRI) and The Museum of Sound.
From the everyday sounds that encapsulate the events of the past twelve months to the year’s most innovative and creative sound technology, the Sound of the Year Awards celebrates sound in all its forms and from all corners of the world.
Judged by a panel of leading lights from the international sound community, the winner of each category will receive a basicUcho high-quality omni-directional microphone, courtesy of LOM, a minimalistic mount made by Radius and a Bubblebee Industries windkiller. The winner of the Sound of the Year category will also receive the Weaver by Fieldtone instruments – a handheld audio sampler that takes any sound and immediately produces rhythmical loops and evolving textures.
Other category partners this year include The Science and Media Museum, Earth Day, Accidental, the Southbank Centre’s National Poetry Library and UK Hearing Conservation Association.
Children’s Category: Best Soundscape & Graphic Score
For the second consecutive year, Sound and Music, in partnership with the SOTY Awards, invited children—whether at home or in the classroom—to create a graphic score and submit their own 60-second soundscape. We welcomed creative submissions and encourage you to consider the kinds of stories you can tell through sound.
This year’s theme was “My Big Adventure” and the winner is Mark Williamson.
