Sound of the Year Awards are celebration of sound presented by The Radiophonic Institute (TRI) and The Museum of Sound.

From the everyday sounds that encapsulate the events of the past twelve months to the year’s most innovative and creative sound technology, the Sound of the Year Awards celebrates sound in all its forms and from all corners of the world.

Judged by a panel of leading lights from the international sound community, the winner of each category will receive a basicUcho high-quality omni-directional microphone, courtesy of LOM, a minimalistic mount made by Radius and a Bubblebee Industries windkiller. The winner of the Sound of the Year category will also receive the Weaver by Fieldtone instruments – a handheld audio sampler that takes any sound and immediately produces rhythmical loops and evolving textures.

Other category partners this year include The Science and Media Museum, Earth DayAccidental, the Southbank Centre’s National Poetry Library and UK Hearing Conservation Association.

Children’s Category: Best Soundscape & Graphic Score

This year’s theme is “My Big Adventure”.

For the second consecutive year, Sound and Music, in partnership with the SOTY Awards, invites children—whether at home or in the classroom—to create a graphic score and submit their own 60-second soundscape. We encourage participants to explore sounds and recordings that capture the spirit of play and adventure.

We welcome creative submissions and encourage you to consider the kinds of stories you can tell through sound.

The deadline for submissions is 28th February 2025, at 6pm.

Prompts:

  • What kind of journey can you take the listener on?
  • What type of adventure is it?
  • Where is it – a real place or imaginary?
  • What are you feeling?
  • Are there obstacles on the way or moments of suspense?
  • How can you depict all this with sounds?
