Mercury Over Maps #23 Core Experimental Music

Mercury Over Maps #23 is an evening of experimental and improvised music featuring three contrasting sets by artists working across acoustic instruments, electronics and hybrid practices.

The night opens with a solo performance by Mandhira de Saram, combining violin and electronics. This is followed by a duo between John McGrath (guitar and electronics) and Benedict Taylor (viola), exploring texture, amplification and extended technique. The final set brings together Regan Bowering (percussion and electronics), Rachel Musson (saxophone) and Bill Thompson (no-input guitar pedals) in a collaborative trio performance. 1 Mercury Over Maps is a curated concert series showcasing cutting-edge experimental and improvised music.

Founded and curated by composer and performer Bill Thompson, the series has been running since 2017 and has presented a wide range of emerging and established musicians from the UK and internationally. The series provides a focused listening space for exploratory music and adventurous performance
