Sound World Young Composers' Prize

The Sound World Young Composers' Prize is free to enter and is open to school-age composers based in the UK.

Instrumentation: pieces can be written for any combination or solo from the following group of instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Horn, Percussion (pitched and unpitched will be available, please enquire as to details),Piano, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello and Bass.

Duration: c. 2-5 minutes.

Shortlisted pieces will be performed by Bristol Ensemble (conducted by John Pickard) on Sunday 22nd September at the Sound World 2019 season finale, a major event staged in partnership with St. George’s, Bristol. At the conclusion of the concert, an overall winner will be announced and presented with the Sound World Young Composers’ Prize.

The event will be filmed.

Closing date: Friday 5th July 2019

Submissions: these should be made online via: Dropbox (NB. you do not need your own Dropbox account) by going to: https://bit.ly/2Yk4eoK or via WeTransfer (wetransfer.com) to info@sound-world.org.

Submissions should consist of a folder containing:

i. Score (Sibelius file preferred). This should not name you as the composer, instead you should use a codename.

ii. A document including your codename, your real name, age, school, title of the piece, duration and a short programme note. Also include your email address.

iii. If you have a recording of the piece please include this (Sibelius/computer realisations are acceptable).

Please ensure that the folder containing these files bears your codename.
