ETHOS

 The aim of the residency is to bring expert practitioners and practising sound artists, composers and performers from varied backgrounds together to create and experience new work in a supportive and stimulating environment. 

 

THE RESIDENCY

 Situated on the on the Island of Madeira Portugal, Estalagem  da Ponta do Sol will be hosting its fourth winter residency for contemporary music and electronics between 10 - 20 December 2018.

 

Under the guidance of the Invited Artists, participants have the opportunity to work collaboratively, to present work (or prepared repertoire), to attend masterclasses, concerts and talks, in the stunning environment of Ponta do Sol, with accommodation and meals at Estalgem da Ponta do Sol. During the course of the residency there will be performances by the Invited Artists, including contemporary acoustic music as well as works with live electronics. Composers and performers are welcome to present their own work collaboratively and individually during the residency, as well as in more informal settings. In addition, five composers will be selected to have the opportunity to work with cellist Eva Boesch and/or flautist Keiko Murakami.

 

INVITED ARTISTS

The residency is pleased to announce that the invited artists attending this year are composer and sound artist Patricia Alessandrini (Stanford University); cellist Eva Boesch (Ensemble Garage Köln/Trio Catch); french hornist, recording artist and educator Sören Hermansson (Mälardalen University, Västerås); flautist Keiko Murakami (Ensemble Linea/ Ensemble l'Imaginaire); and composer, sound artist, performer and researcher Gilbert Nouno (IRCAM/Goldsmiths/Royal College of Music). They will be joined by event co-ordinator and composer Sarah Westwood (Goldsmiths, University of London), and technical assistant and composer Marina Sybill Schlagintweit (Cité internationale des arts Paris).
