The Durham Brass Festival are looking for creative and inspired brass players (including Saxes) that can create something fascinating using mobile phone Looping Apps for the 2018 Durham Brass Festival.  Looping Apps for mobile phones have become increasingly sophisticated and popular in recent years and we would like to showcase this accessible and affordable technology at the Festival.

We have a number of commissions available with a fee of £500 to come and perform the piece you devise at the Festival on Thursday 19 July in the Town Hall, Durham at 7.30pm.  The commission is open to any UK based brass player and is based on the following criteria:

1. The piece should be no longer than 15 minutes

2. The piece can be in any idiom (jazz, contemporary classical etc)

3. The piece should involve just a solo brass player and a mobile phone which will be amplified at the event

4. You should be available to come to Durham to perform on Thursday 19 July at 7.30pm

There are a number of looping apps available to download such as Loopy HD https://loopyapp.com/ or LoopStation http://loopstationapp.com/.  You are free to choose your own app.

To be considered for one of our commissions we would like you to tell us a little about yourself, tell us about the piece you will be creating and a short sample of your work.  This can be an MP3 or a link to a platform such as Soundcloud or Youtube where we can hear your submission.

The deadline to be considered for this commission is Friday 15 June and we will notify those selected by Friday 22 June.

We have tried to keep the entry criteria very straightforward but should you have any questions please email them to: brassfestival@durham.gov.uk
