Apply
The deadline for the 2012 Summer School has now passed and we are not able to accept any late applications.
There are two ways to apply:
1. Online
The form will take you through the requirements and ask you to give information about yourself and attach examples of your music.
2. By Post
Firstly, fill in an application form and post it to us at the address below.
Then, send us an example of your music, in paper score format, or on a CD recording (or both).
Send up to 250 words telling us about the piece your have written; what were your starting points, how you developed it, how you have structured it; along the lines of a coursework log. There are some examples of coursework logs below, although you don’t have to follow that format.
Send up to 250 words saying why you want to take part in the Summer School, what experience you have of composing music including at school, with a composition teacher or independently, and any musical activities in which you’re involved.
Send it to: Judith Robinson, Learning Producer, Sound and Music, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 1LA by Friday 30 March 2012.
What happens after I’ve submitted my application form?
You will receive a standard letter acknowledging receipt of your application. We’ll let you know by early June if you have been allocated a place. Places are limited, so don’t miss the deadline!
Coursework Logs
Coursework logs can take a number of formats – here are some examples:
1. Basic template for GCSE music (taken from the Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment website)
2. Template for GCSE music where technology is a major part of the composition
4. Guidelines for writing a composition log for music for film (thanks to Aidan Goetzee, Head of Music Technology, Purcell School of Music)
