Do you want to hear your music showcased at Music for Youth’s National Festival in Birmingham in July? If so, we want to hear from you! Music for Youth and Sound and Music are celebrating the creation of new music by some of the best, most diverse and talented young musicians from across the UK at MFY’s National Festival in July 2018. We are looking for six new compositions, varying in musical style and written for a range of performing groups, to be performed live on MFY’s New Music Stage. If your piece is selected to be performed at the five-day National Festival, you will also benefit from expert advice from professional musicians, composers and music educators. As well as the opportunity to have your work showcased at Music for Youth’s National Festival, one of the composers, or creators, will receive the Sound and Music New Music Partnership as part of MFY Connects, leading to further bespoke artistic development opportunities.
Who can take part? We want to hear from any musician, aged between 12 and 21, who creates original, new music; this can range from song-writing for an indie band to using unique software and hardware for music creation, such as Ableton, to composing for a symphony orchestra. All submissions must have been composed after January 2017. Music for Youth and Sound and Music encourage submissions from schools, organisations working with young composers and individual composers. We also welcome applications from electronic musicians and composers using digital audio technology. New Music Stage provides a public performance opportunity, so in addition to submitting a new work, you need to know who will perform your new music and/or how you will realise your work. Performers should also be aged between 12 and 21. They could be friends, a group from your school or local organisation, or an independent group you’ve worked with before. What are we looking for?
