For this season's Embedded we are delighted to be working with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
About the programme: Embedded is a Sound and Music artist development programme. Funded by The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Embedded places a selection of artists from a range of disciplines into real-world artistic contexts with leading national creative organisations. Aimed at talented artists at an early stage in their career, Embedded is a bespoke programme, providing practical hands-on experience and significant creative opportunities.
Arne Gieshoff with BCMG
Arne Gieshoff is currently completing a Master’s degree in Composition at the Royal College of Music studying with Jonathan Cole, Simon Holt and Dai Fujikura. He is supported by an ABRSM Scholarship and an RVW Trust Award. In 2013 Arne graduated from the RCM with First Class Honours. Previous teachers include Kenneth Hesketh and Cord Meijering. He was awarded the2012 Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize, the Elgar Memorial Prize and the Adrian Cruft Prize for Composition. He is an LSO Soundhub Associate and received a fellowship for the2014 session of the Tanglewood Music Centre.
He participated in the St. Magnus Composers‘ Course 2010, directed by Sally Beamish and Alasdair Nicolson, the Britten-Pears Contemporary Composition and Performance Course 2011/12, directed by Oliver Knussen, Colin Matthews and Michael Gandolfi, the Dartington International Summer School 2011, led by Gerald Barry and Richard Baker as well as the Etchings Festival 2012 to study with Philippe Hurel and George Tsontakis.
Arne’s works were performed, amongst others, by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Luxembourg Sinfonietta, Hebrides Ensemble, Composers Ensemble, Size Zero Opera and the Phorminx Ensemble as well asconductors Richard Baker, Robin O'Neill, Gregory Charette, Marcel Wengler and Thomas Søndergård. His work Nachtreise was released on CD by the Luxembourg Society of ContemporaryMusic in 2010. Arne’s works have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BR-KLASSIK and SR2.
He was accepted onto the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Leverhulme Young Composers’Programme and subsequently commissioned to write a chamber orchestra piece for the LPO's Debut Sounds Concert in 2014 conducted by Clement Power.
Arne is co-founder and artistic director of the contemporary music group explorensemble.
